Beckfield News – 24 June

A message from Mrs Watkiss

Hello everybody! Thank you for reading our weekly news. We’ve had a really busy week in school, with competitions, singing and lots of timestables!

There has been so much hard work in our classrooms this week. Even though we are close to the end of the year, this has not stopped our children from showing their usual determination and commitment to their learning. It is a joy to see when I’m walking around school and showing visitors.

Next week, children in Year 1, 3, 4 and 5 will complete their end of year assessments and I know again that they will do their best and that’s all we ask of them.

Hope you all have a restful weekend and I look forward to seeing you around school next week.

Best wishes,

Mrs Watkiss

Skills Builder

Our focus for the next fortnight will be on Teamwork. We have our Sports Days coming up and children will be taking part in challenges as part of a team, where they will compete against other teams to win points. This will mean that they will need to do lots of cooperating and collaborating, which are important skills when trying to achieve anything.

Careers afternoon – coming soon!

As you know, in July, we are hosting a Careers afternoon for children across the whole school. We would like to hear from parents who would like to come in and do some sessions to talk all about their job and how they got the job and what skills they use in their job. This is linked to our Skills Builder work and will be a great opportunity for children to learn about all the different jobs they could have when they’re older. We want a wide variety of jobs so it doesn’t matter what you do, we want to hear about it!

Thank you to those of you who have been in touch already. If you want to volunteer, please get in touch with Mrs Watkiss to find out more. She will be sending out some guidance next week.

Group Chats

This week we bring you a guide all about ‘group chats’. Whilst these can be a really great place for us to share funny stories and arrange things, it’s important that you are in the loop with what your children are discussing in group chats and who they’re discussing with. There are times when group chats can make children feel isolated and vulnerable and if they know you are keeping an eye on things anyway, they will know they can come to you for support.

Pudsey’s Big Sing

This week, our Year 5 and 6 children attended Pudsey Civic Hall to take part in a Big Sing-A-Long with other schools in the Pudsey area. They sang their hearts out and represented our school really well.

They all had sore throats and looked very tired when they arrived back at school so that was a good sign that they enjoyed themselves and not held back. Well done, Year 5 and 6!

Year 5 and 6 Rounders Competition

This week our Year 5 and 6 children visited Pudsey Grammar to take part in a Rounders competition with other schools. As always, they represented Beckfield superbly and showed excellent teamwork and determination. Well done for doing an amazing job, team!

Year 4 Multiplication Check

Well done to all our Year 4 children who have been completing their Multiplication Tables Checks this week. They have all shown determination to succeed and didn’t give up even though it was quite challenging. You have all been very impressive.

Results will be shared along with reports before the end of the year.

Celebrations and awards

Take a look at all our wonderful winners from this week! We have your names displayed with pride in the entrance to our school, so that all our visitors can see.

This week’s winners

Well done to you all! You have given all your efforts to aim for excellence!

Headteacher award

The winner of this week’s Headteacher award is…Holly-Grace Puttock

Holly has received this award for always bringing her best self to school and setting an outstanding example to others in how hard-working, resilient and kind she is. It is a pleasure to have her at Beckfield and I want to thank her for everything she gives to her learning.

Attendance winners

This week our Year 5 class has the highest attendance AGAIN! Well done to you all – a brilliant achievement!

The class with the most attendance stars at the end of the Summer term will have a special afternoon to celebrate their success.

We will also do another parent draw at the end of the term, for those children who have been in school 100% of the time.
