We teach a curriculum which engages our children. We teach children from a wide range of backgrounds but our goal for all is to extend opportunity, raise aspirations and open our children’s eyes to the magic of learning.
Our thorough approach to the national curriculum will ensure that children learn a progression of knowledge and skills throughout their time in primary education. Knowledge underpins and enables the application of skill. We strive for children to learn skills alongside knowledge, ensuring that both are developed. As a school, we use progression ladders to plan learning opportunities for each year group that directly connect with other year groups.
Our curriculum will be accessible to all and this will be achieved through effective adaptations to learning. High-quality texts form the backbone of our teaching as we want our children to develop a love of reading and an awareness of what a vital life skill this is. Learning experiences are also a key feature of our learning journeys and children therefore get hands on with their learning, allowing them to really explore and be curious.
The curriculum at Beckfield is developed with a significant focus placed on vocabulary as we want to give our children every possible advantage. We plan for ambitious vocabulary to be taught across the curriculum. We also put a high emphasis on dialogic teaching, meaning children have plentiful opportunities to discuss and debate their views.
The most important element to our curriculum is that it is designed to work for our children. We are committed to their personal development and this, as well as a highly aspirational and well-planned curriculum, will ensure that children leave Co-op Academy Beckfield having the knowledge and skills to be successful in their next stage in life and beyond.
