World of Work Week

Year 5’s World of Work Week was a great success! Throughout the week they engaged fantastically with lots of different careers activities.

On Monday, the class learnt all about post 16-options such as T-Levels, apprenticeships and college as well as researching different career options. In the afternoon they formed teams for their Enterprise Challenge - designing a new healthy snack to be sold in Co-op stores.

On Tuesday afternoon, we had visitors into the school so that we could play ‘Guess the Job’. Year 4 and Year 5 planned and asked insightful questions to work out what the careers of the volunteers were. They were then given time with each person to find out even more about their jobs. We were lucky enough to have a Social Impact Manager, Biomedical Engineer, Arts and Crafts Officer, Professional Organiser and Declutterer and a Pagaent Queen who also works as a Project Manager. You can see photos of the event here

On Wednesday, Year 4 and Year 6 joined Year 5 in attending our annual Careers Fair. All the children were able to ask questions and find out more about so many different companies, such as Robertson Construction, Academy of Live Technology and Northern Gas Networks! Parents also joined us after school. You can see photos of all the different companies who came to volunteer here

On Thursday, the Year 5s had to apply for a job! They had the difficult decision of whether to apply for work experience as a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team or as a Teaching Assistant. They wrote letters of application and brainstormed questions they wanted to find out about the role. In the afternoon, we were lucky enough to have 3 of our Comminity Council Members come to school and run the interviews for the children. We were blown away with the children's confidence and professionalism. You can see more photos of their interview here.

To end off a busy week, the Year 5 Enterprise Teams all presented their new snack pitches in front of the school ‘Dragons’ after their final preparations.
